Course Overview

Organisations either develop or degenerate depending on how effective the organisational development process is managed. This course looks at development from a systems point of view, in which organisations are understood as living entities. Organisational Development  interventions, such as Balanced Score Card, Strategic Planning, Performance Management, Reengineering, Total Quality Management, Quality Circles and Continuous Quality Improvement are interrogated. Topics include the change management process, key success and failure factors as well as resistance to change. Knowledge of these themes allows delegates to analyse challenges successfully, develop feasible strategy and successfully implement an appropriate intervention.

Learning Outcomes

• Be familiar with Organisational Development (OD) terminology and concepts
• Have an understanding of key OD success and failure factors
• Be familiar with and able to appreciate strengths and weaknesses of various OD interventions, such as Balanced Score Card, Strategic Planning, Performance
• Management, Reengineering, Total Quality Management (TQM), Quality Circles and
• Continuous Quality Improvement (CCI)
• Be able to analyse OD challenges successfully, develop a feasible strategy and successfully implement an appropriate OD intervention
• Be able to identify, understand and involve appropriate stakeholders successfully in the OD management process
• Be familiar with a change management process and phases
• Be able to deal with resistance to change
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the organisation as a system comprising of interrelated subsystems such as structure, culture, strategy, policies and capacity
