Creativity is the ability to use the imagination to develop new ideas, knowledge and solutions to problems. Creativity distinguishes leaders from followers. It distinguishes success from failure.
In today’s rapidly-changing and volatile business world, the survivors will be those who harness the power of creativity as a source of their competitive advantage. Without creativity, organisations become obsolete and extinguished. Creativity is the spirit that keeps organisations renewing, reinventing and regenerating. It is a spirit that thrives on chaos, conflict and change – the things that humans fear the most.
Creativity is about journeying into the unknown, exploring unexplored territory and being a discoverer rather than a settler. It is about doing things differently and defying norms and habits. Creativity is about freedom of expression and the happiness that comes with the thrill of success. Creative people connect unrelated ideas to develop new knowledge. As a resource, creativity is highly strategic, and yet it is free – it comes from imagination, instinct and intuition.
Be creative. Be smart. Be an original thinker. When you believe in an idea, never give up no matter how crazy it might be. Never mind what the people around you say – keep on trying until you succeed. There is a dormant genius inside of each of us. Awaken that genius. Unleash the miraculous energy of creativity within you and create a new, amazing life.

In general, everyday conversations between coach–coachee or manager/subordinate and even in personal relationship settings, we can observe ourselves in an ongoing rapport-building process, consciously or unconsciously.
Consider the Sasol debacle, no… not the one around the corporate fine, the one about the prestigious Sasol New Signatures fine art competition and its winner.
Sasol, sponsor of this competition distanced itself from the winning work in no uncertain terms – though they did pay the artist his prize, Sasol made the unprecedented move of officially and publicly dis-associating themselves from - and not buying for their prestigious as has become tradition – the winning artwork.
Under the heading ‘Change, Choice and Consequences’, Judi traced the origins of what has become the converged communications landscape back to the almost primal need of individuals to communicate from the earliest times of our species.
In the next Dialogue Circle we will explore the relationships between Creativity and Authentic Leadership by borrowing a few techniques from the coaching modalities ‘clean-language’ and ‘symbolic-modelling’.
