The History of Regenesys: A Success Story

With over 30,000 students trained and educated in the past ten years, and many local and international clients, including the European Union (EU), Anglo American, Mercedes, Woolworths, Standard Bank and many other large corporates, Regenesys has become one of the fastest growing and leading institutions of management education and training in Southern Africa.

Marko Saravanja, the founder and current CEO of Regenesys, started the company nine years ago. Prior to this, he was a monk following the Ananda Marga yoga and meditation movement. He lived and worked in Orange Farm, a poverty-stricken community in the south of Johannesburg, where he initiated various development projects such as a primary school, an adult education project and a health centre. Marko obtained a Master’s degree in Management from Wits University and also worked at the same university from 1995-1998.

Marko had a vision of making the world a better place to live in through education. Not just ordinary education, but education that would awaken human potential, inspire and transform human lives – education that would approach human development holistically, not just intellectually, but also emotionally, spiritually and physically.

Today, Regenesys is a highly successful organisation with many great achievements in its relatively short span of life. It is a local success story – it is a proud embodiment of a new South Africa. Some of its achievements include:

  • ISO 9001:2000 accreditation since 2006
  • BEE rating AAA+ by Empowerdex
  • Accreditation as Institute of Sectoral and Occupational Excellence by ETDP SETA
  • Accredited by the following accreditation authorities: Council on Higher Education (CHE), Department of Education, SAQA, ETDP SETA, Services Seta, Local Government SETA, PSETA, THETA and SABPP
  • Winner of Impumelelo / ABSA 2007 competition of BEE companies in the education sector
  • Regenesys Business School obtaining accreditation of its MBA programme at a time when many local and international business schools were disaccredited by the CHE
  • Awarded the status of Institute of Sectoral Excellence by ETDP SETA
  • Wonders of the World Project. The aim of this project is to reward high performing staff and to encourage them to ’see the world’, ‘conquer their fears’ and become wonders themselves. About 40 of its staff, irrespective of their positions, were taken to Egypt in 2006 and China in 2007 for team building and learning experiences.
  • International Conference 2008 at which a host of influential, motivational and leadership authorities spoke on all aspects of Secrets of Success in Leadership. Presenters included Dr John Demartini, Deepak Chopra and many South African business leaders.

Regenesys is a very ambitious organisation. Its ‘Vision 2020? is to become a leading school of management and leadership in the world. Medium-term goals include international expansion while the short-term goal is to become the leading management school in South Africa.

Marko is the author of the book ‘Secrets of Success’ with 5,000 copies sold in one and half years. He is an entrepreneur, businessman, spiritualist, philanthropist, academic and explorer – he has climbed Kilimanjaro, scuba-dived, parachuted and travelled to 41 countries by the age of 41.
