Students and Staff:

  • Membership of the Resource Centre is automatic upon registration or appointment at Regenesys.
  • Registered students and staff will be allowed to borrow material and make use of all services provided by the Resource Centre subject to the conditions set out below.
  • Off-campus students (students in regions) have access to all electronic services provided by the Resource Centre.

Visitors:

  • Visitors may use the Resource Centre at a cost of R30 per day.
  • Use of the facility is restricted to the use of the Resource Centre’s material for photocopying (50c per page) and studying purposes only.
  • Computer and Internet access can be provided at an additional fee of R70 per day plus 50c per page for printing.

4. Use of computers in the Resource Centre

  • Word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software are installed on the computers and as such may be used for completion of assignments and study related purposes only.
  • Data on hard disk drives may be removed with prior notification.
  • Users do not have access to the Regenesys network or email server.
  • Free internet access is provided and usage is subject to the Regenesys Internet Use Policy.
  • Email access is only possible via free web base mail services (e.g. Yahoo, Webmail etc.).
  • Virus protection software may under no circumstances be deactivated.

5. Loans

5.1 Borrowing privileges

  • Borrowers will be held responsible for all material until returned to the Resource Centre.
  • Periodicals (magazines and journals), videos, newspapers and reference books may only be used in the Resource Centre.
  • Study collection material (prescribed and recommended books) may be used in the Resource Centre for two hours at a time.
  • Study collection material may also be checked out overnight, two hours before closing time, to be returned by 9.00 am the next morning.
  • All other items (open shelf) are available for loans as per the rules set out below.
  • No certificates, assignment and/or examination results will be issued to students until they have returned any outstanding books or paid up any fines due to the Resource Centre.

* The number of items is the total of items of all kinds on loan at any one time.
** Short course students may use material and facilities in the Resource Centre on site. No borrowing privileges are extended.

5.3 Renewals

  • Renewals of loans are permitted unless the book has been reserved for another user.
  • An item may be renewed up to two times if it is not required by another user.
  • Renewals may be done by students in person or telephonically with the Knowledge Manager, or by sending an email to library@regenesys.co.za

5.4 Penalties for late returns and non-returns

  • Fines are charged to all users, regardless of status, for any items which is returned after the due date and which has not been renewed.
  • If a renewal is made after the due date, a fine will be charged for the period of time between the due date and the date the item is renewed.
  • Fines are charged at R15,00 per day per item.
  • If fines are not paid within three weeks after the return date, no further loans will be permitted and the user will be blacklisted on the Resource Centre system.
  • If material is not returned within three weeks after the expiry date, no further loans will be permitted. The member will be blacklisted and billed for the replacement cost of the material on the Resource Centre system.
  • Study collection books that are overdue will incur a fine of R25,00 per day.
  • Outstanding fines can be paid in person or electronically.

5.5 Lost / damaged items

  • The Resource Centre must be notified  immediately if material has been lost or damaged.
  • Borrowers who have lost or damaged material beyond repair will be charged for the full replacement cost (minimum charge of R200). Alternatively, borrowers can also supply the Resource Centre with a new copy of the material.
  • Borrowers will not be allowed to borrow further material until the account has been paid or the material replaced.
  • Fines for damaged items are at the discretion of the Resource Centre (minimum charge of R50 per item) dependent upon the extent of the damage.

5.6 Reservations

  • Material (excluding videos, periodicals and reference material) may be reserved from the Resource Centre open collection.
  • Reservations may be made for items which are out on loan to other users.
  • Users will be informed as soon as their reserved item/s become available.
  • Reserved material must be collected from the Resource Centre within a week.

6. Photocopying and printing facilities

  • Photocopying and printing facilities are available for material in the Resource Centre.
  • Photocopies and/or printing are normally charged at 25c per page copied or printed.
  • Please be aware that there are copyright restrictions on photocopying large amounts of material.

7. Interlibrary loans

  • Material (books and journal articles only) not available in the Resource Centre can be obtained from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan (ILL) at an additional cost.
  • Supplying times will vary depending on availability.
  • The borrower will be held responsible for charges incurred for overdue books or lost and damaged books. The charge will be determined by the supplying library.

8. Use of Ebsco (Business Source Elite)

  • The Resource Centre provides on site and remote access, via the Internet, to this online database.
  • The username and password required to access the database can be obtained from the Knowledge Manager.
  • The username and password will be changed from time to time for security purposes.
  • The database and its content is the subject of copyright protection as under the Copyright Act of 1976.
  • Users may download (electronically store) or print (including fax and email) limited copies of citations, abstracts, full text or portions thereof provided the information is used solely for internal personal, non-commercial use.
  • Users may not publish the information.
  • Users shall not use the database (altered or not) as a component of or the basis of any other publication prepared for sale.
